Film Review: Gadael Lenin

Gadael Lenin (1993)

A Welsh film set in Russia directly after the collapse of the USSR. A group of Welsh high schoolers and their teachers get seperated on an art trip to St. Petersburg. The expected hijinks ensue, but the film is more about self-discovery, for the teachers (who are left stranded without money and have to make their way to St. Petersburg with only their wits to guide them) and the students. It's very beautiful and angsty and features one particularly amusing dancing scene on a bridge (amusing in a dated, earlier 90s, "my god, they can't dance at all" sort of way).
